Bible Reading: Deuteronomy 33 v1-11.   Text v3 "…all his saints are in thy hand:… ."

Title- In God's Hand -

In this life there are many difference among the people of God.

Some are in public life, some are in private life, some are rich, and some are poor.

Some are strong in faith, others are weak in faith, and some are young in faith others are mature in faith.

But no matter what their differences on earth may be it must be said that all of Gods people are equally dear to God. Galatians 3 v28, "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

Yes despite their difference it must be said that all God's people are precious to God because they all belong to the same family which is the household of faith. And they are all going to that same eternal home of heaven.

And this great truth that all God's people are cherished by God is highlighted by Moses in our text.

In Deuteronomy 33 Moses the servant of God is giving his farewell address to Israel.

In this address he tells of how God has blessed Israel. V1"And this is the blessing, wherewith Moses the man of God blessed the children of Israel before his death."

This blessing consisted of the fact that God had revealed his glory to Israel by giving them the law.  v2, "And he said, The LORD came from Sinai, and rose up from Seir unto them; he shined forth from mount Paran, and he came with ten thousands of saints: from his right hand went a fiery law for them."

Israel was blessed above every nation because it was given the law of God.

Then this blessing also consisted of the fact that they were loved of God V3," Yea, he loved the people;". It’s the same for every Christian, " Jeremiah 33v3, " yea I have loved thee with an everlasting love."

And proof of this love for Israel is in the fact that they were embraced in the hand of God. v3, "all his saints are in thy hand:" It’s the same for every believer, Psalms  31 v15, "my times are in thy hand."

Child of God proof that you are precious to God is the fact that when you are saved you are in the Lords hand. This is your blessed portion as the child of God.

Now as you think of this I want you  to consider what it means to be in the hand of the Lord.

1.      To be in God's hand means to be in his fashioning hand.

In Jeremiah  18v6, the Lord says to Israel, "O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel."

Here the Lord was telling Israel that he was the potter and they were the clay.

And just as the potter fashions the clay into a vessel, so the Lord was telling Israel that he would fashion them into a vessel for Gods glory.

And child of God it is the same for you as well. To be in the Lord's hand means to be in his fashioning hand.  God is the divine potter,  you & I who are saved are the clay in his hand.

And being the divine potter  God wants to mould & fashion your life so that you shall be a vessel that will bring Him praise, honour & glory.

Isaiah  43 v21, "This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise.

2 Timothy  2 v21, " If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.

Child of God this is the will of the divine potter for your life- God wants you to be a vessel unto honour, to show froth his praise.

Now to fulfil this plan- the Lord has drawn you to the place of salvation, repentance & faith.

And through his salvation your sins have been forgiven, & you have been brought into a right relationship with God. Romans 5 v1," Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

Romans 8 v1," There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, … ."

Unsaved friend,   if you are to enjoy Gods salvation you must repent of your sin & believe on Christ.

Acts 3 v19, "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;."

1 John 4 v9 & 10, "In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

10    Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

1 john 3 v23, " And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ,

But then once you  are saved , the Lord continues to fashion your life for his glory, by his grace, & Spirit working in your heart. And by this work we are given strength to obey the Lord, & His word for our lives.

Philippians 1 v6, "Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.  Philippians  4 v13, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

2.      To be in the Lord's hand means to be in his Chastening Hand.

This was a truth that Moses reminded Israel off in Deuteronomy 8v5, "Thou shalt also consider in thine heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so the LORD thy God chasteneth thee.

In Israel's history there was times when the Lord allowed trial & affliction to come upon them.

The purpose of this chastening was to correct them from way wardness & to encourage them to live close to the Lord & his ways.

And likewise child of God when you & I are in the Lord's hand, we can expect the rod of trial & affliction to come our way at times.

Now such chastening is a token of the Lord's love toward us.  "Hebrews  12 v6, "For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

Yes as well as being proof of his love it is also a token that we are God's child.

This was something Luther realised, for in times of trial he said, "Strike on lord, strike on, for now I know I am thy child." Oh if the Lord were never to chasten us it would be a sign that we were not the Lord's child nor the recipient of his love." And like Israel of old the purpose of this chastening is for our spiritual profit. It is to correct us when we go astray. It's to wean us away from depending upon self, man or the world.  It is to sanctify us & make us more conformed to the image of Christ.

This whole purpose is high lightled for us in Hebrews  12 v10 & 11, "For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.

11  Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

Child of God it is not a pleasant thing when the Lord takes away our comforts & supports in this life but when this happens let us remember that god allows such things for our Spiritual profit."

3.      To be in the Lords hand means to be in His guiding hand.

If you or I were to lead a blind man we would have to take him by the hand and lead him step by step.

Well this is what the Lord has promised to do for his people.  He has promised to lead & guide them step by step.

Isaiah  42v16, "And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them.

These words speak of Gods promise to guide his people. This promise has held good throughout the ages

Such guidance was the portion of Abraham's servant.  In Genesis 24 v27 he said, "I being in the way the Lord led me to the house of my master's brethren.

Such guidance was the lot of Israel in the wilderness. Deuteronomy  8 v2, "And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness,

Also this guidance was the portion of the Psalmist, Psalms  71 v17, " O God thou hast taught me from my youth."  It was the case also with the hymn writer, "all the way my saviour leads me what have I to ask beside.

Divine guidance was the portion of Adoniram Judson. On 2 occasions, he tried to commence missionary work in India, but as this was not the place where God wanted him to be so the door was shut. Instead God opened the door for him into Burma and although initially this was not the place where Judson wanted to go, God led Him there and mightily used & blessed him .

Indeed the bible says, "as for God his way is perfect.

Child of God when you submit your life to the will of God & word of God, and when you pray and ask for God's direction, in your life, then the Lord will be your guide and lead you aright

Proverbs  3 v5 & 6, "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding….In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."

4.      To be in the Lord hand means to be in his Preserving Hand

In choosing Israel as His own peculiar people, & in redeeming them out of Egypt and in leading them to the promised land, they became the object of satanic attack from every quarter.

But God preserved them & brought them into Canaan & has preserved Israel as a nation until this very day. He will continue to preserve this nation until the time when Jesus comes.

Psalms 105 v1 say, "0 give thanks unto the Lord, call upon His name, make known his deed's among the people,  V14 says, " he suffered no man to do them wrong, he reproved kings for their sake."

This same divine preservation applies to every Child of God redeemed by the blood of the lamb. Child of God remember that you are precious to the Lord,  he gave his life's blood for you.

In giving His blood for you, he will never allow you to perish in hell. Rather he will keep you in his hand as his child forever. And in doing so he will bring you into Glory.

Isaiah 62 v3 says, "Thou shalt also be a crown of glory in the hand of the LORD, and a royal diadem in the hand of thy God. Jude 1 says, "Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called:

Child of God when you have repented of your sin & have trusted Christ as saviour, you are preserved by the Lord unto eternal life & glory. There is no power on earth or in hell, that can separate you from the Lord. When Frances Havergal was on her deathbed, she asked a friend to read Isaiah 42 v6, "I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee."  Upon hearing this she said, " I am called, held, kept by the Lord, I can go home on that."  Child of God take encouragement that your life is in the hand of God forever.

And unsaved friend if you are to have the same hope & be delivered out of the destroying hand of sin & Satan,  & be in the preserving hand of God, then you must be saved.

The way to be saved is by faith alone in Christ alone,  Acts 16 v31 says, " And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.  Amen.
